Professional mixed martial artist Kimbo Slice died Monday at age 42.
Bellator president Scott Coker said in a statement, “We are all shocked and saddened by the devastating and untimely loss of Kimbo Slice, a beloved member of the Bellator family.” He said Slice was “a charismatic, larger-than-life personality that transcended the sport.”
“Outside of the cage he was a friendly, gentle giant and a devoted family man,” Coker said. “His loss leaves us all with extremely heavy hearts, and our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Ferguson family and all of Kimbo’s friends, fans, and teammates.”
As of now, there is no confirmation on the cause of Slice’s death.
According to ESPN, Slice had been hospitalized earlier Monday in Margate, Florida, for undisclosed reasons, according to Coral Springs police, who had been dispatched to his residence to prevent a potential gathering outside. They said no foul play was suspected.
Kimbo’s last fight was here in Houston in back in February where he battled Dhafir “Dada 5000” Harris in Bellator 149 at the Toyota Center.
